All,
Have a Model 70 Super Express, SN G25730, in the 375 H&H Magnum. Cant seem to find much info. about the Super Express model per se. also the serial number does not really fit into the historical listing. My understanding is that they started putting a G in front of the serial number in 1969 but kept the serial number sequence intact. Would have to assume it was made in 1969 but was wondering if anyone had any insight here.
Thanks and regards,
Mark,
Winchester did keep the serial numbers in sequence while they were still manufacturing the Model 70. However, that ended in December of 1980, and the U.S. Repeating Arms Co. (USRACo.) resumed production in 1981. For at least several years, they continued the sequential serial number order, and then sometime in the 1990s, they began serializing each variation in its own run of numbers. I highly suspect that is what the case is with your rifle.
