The Model 70 Target, National Match and Bull Guns were all factory equipped with scope blocks. The blocks were made by Winchester and were not made by Unertl, although very similar in size and appearance. Many people generally refer to these blocks as “Unertl”. They were not factory installed on the standard (sporting) versions of the model 70. Winchester would do this on a special order basis on any of their 70’s, although I would certainly call them aftermarket on a standard rifle unless there was some type of factory provenance, like a Winchester invoice proving they were installed at factory. There were also adapter scope blocks manufactured that would utilize the rear sight dovetail in standard barrels to facilitate use of external adjustment scopes on the 70’s. Since all the front receiver rings were d/t’d, it was just a case of adding a block on the front ring and the adapter block to mount your scope, w/o the need to do any additional drilling/tapping on the barrel.
