Hi,
I have a 1960 Model 70 Featherweight in .270 that is missing the front sight hood. I have found several on the various bidding sites for sale but I want the correct one. There appears to be maybe 3 or more versions of sight hoods for various models of pre 64 winchesters in different shapes and heights. I believe I know the correct shape of hood that I need but was wondering if anyone knew the correct height of the hood.
Thank you for your time and help.
.
The front sight hood for a Pre-64 M70 should measure about 0.710 inches high plus or minus (they varied a little during different time periods). If you look at the side of the hood, the flat portion is about the same height as the round, upper portion. Some of the hoods for other models have a much shorter flat portion and a much lower overall height.
