An upcoming auction lists two Model 65’s in 218 Bee. I was told the serial numbers are 1003807 and 1003382. I am concerned the second serial number (1003382) pre-dates the range that would correctly include 218 Bee. Am I correct in this assessment? How can I otherwise verify these are correct rifles? I am using Bert’s Model 65 History and Analysis article and data in The Red Book… for reference.
Thanks for any guidance.

Mac,
Both of the rifles you mention are well within the expected serial number range for the 218 Bee cartridge. In my research survey, the serial number range for the 218 Bee begins at 1002300. The first thing I look for is the presence of the No. 98C bolt-peep sight. That was the standard sight used for the Model 65 rifles chambered for the 218 Bee.
What auction are these in? I would like to look at pictures of them so that I can more accurately list them in my survey.
