i own a couple 64’s, 1 standard, and 1 deluxe.  I have always wanted to add a 64A to the collection. My local gun store here in Michigan has a 64A…however it has the “deluxe” wood on it !!  According to Renneberg, page 216, Variation II, it states it was only manu with standard uncheckered version only. This one has checkering.  It also has a “capped” pistol grip, it also has a screw-in (non-inletted) swivel stud in stock, and it has a forend cap with the swivel hole built into it.

Any input would be well appreciated….

Would love to own a unique rifle !?!

Can you post or send me pictures of the Model 64A you found?  While I do not know for sure, it would not surprise me if Winchester made a few of them  with checkered stocks and sling mounts.  The complete serial number would be nice to know.

Can you provide me with the details on your older Model 64 rifles?  I have an extensive research survey documenting them, and I just very recently published an in depth article discussing the Model 64.

Description seems more like the NRA Centennial than a 64A, except for the checkered wood.

Edit: No grip cap on the NRA

Im well familiar with the 1971 NRA centennial combo, I do own a consecutive number, NIB, never fired, with all packaging and hang tags set.

Rifle in question = is in NIC’s, pending, will have updates and photos …say…in 1 week !

Thank you very much for the information on the (4) Model 64 rifles in your collection.  Each one of them was a new entry in the survey.

I have finally received my 64A, yeahhhhh, as stated above when i first inquired, does have also the larger capped pistol grip cap, a 3B hammer, 18 / inch checkering, and a  black plastic butt plate.

Soon as i conquer the camera and computer technology, i will send pictures.

Was the Model 64A a carryover of parts from the NRA rifles in much the same way that the Wrangler was a carryover of parts from the John Wayne Model?
