Recently purchased a Winchester model 1895 Carbine. Excellent shape. As I was giving it a detailed inspection at home, I discovered a British Broad Arrow Marking stamped inside the lever. Manufacture date is 1915. Any thoughts or ideas? Have others seen this? British purchase any 1895s?

Some factory inspectors markings can look like the broad arrow (a smaller version). I have seen these on some of my 1892 levers when they are lowered.

Are there any extra proof marks on the breech or even receiver?

No other Broad Arrows.  Looks exactly the same as broad arrows (as to size and shape) on my Webley and Enfield firearms. Just seems too coincidental being in 303 BR and in 1915. When every nation was scrambling for guns. Hoping another would turn up, then I would know more likely what it’s history is.
