Folks,

I have Model 1894, serial #143830, 30 WCF, 1/2 octagon barrel, takedown, checkered stock, pistol grip cap, Lyman #6 folding leaf rear sight, Lyman front sight, Marble tang sight.  The left side of the lever has a number etched on it, 12498 or 12098, only visible when the lever is lowered.  Can someone tell me what this number might be?

Thanks,

Mac,

I have a model 1894, serial number 143826, and it has no number etched into the lever.  Perhaps a former owner put it there?

Mac,

Winchester did not etch numbers anywhere on the Model 1894.  A previous owner undoubtedly put the number on it for an unknown reason.

Thanks Al and Bert,

Any thoughts on how the etching might affect rifle value?  The rifle is in overall very nice condition and functions/shoots well.

Mac,

It should only be a minor distraction to the value.
