I have a Model 1885 made in 1891 with a stamp P.M.SS.Co. on the octagon barrel. I think this refers to the Pacific Mail Steamship company but have not been able to locate any provenance. Any help would be appreciated. 573.216.0403

I have not ever encountered a Model 1885 with the marking you desribe. Can you provide a clear picture of it? What is the serial numnber and the caliber?

Thanks for responding. The serial number is 50949 and was applied September 3,1891. According to my Winchester letter the rifle was received in warehouse September 24,1891 and shipped to unknown September 28,1891, order number 11476.
Type, rifle, caliber 44WCF, barrel type octagon, barrel weight #3, barrel length 28 inches, trigger plain.
