Looks like a nice lettered rifle. I would wish the swiss butt plate was on the letter. But suppose it could have been over looked.

I don’t think the BP is original. Fit at heal is off and the screws just don’t look correct.

I completely agree.  The screws would never protrude like that for factory work nor would the gap between the buttplate existing like that.

I have to agree with you gentlemen on the butt plate, as not being on the letter, and the fit, especially at the toe is suspect. The screw not being aligned properly, and fitting correctly sends a flag also. IMO!

In addition to the Swiss butt plate not being factory original to that rifle, the receiver frame & associated parts have been refinished (incorrectly).  As originally manufactured by Winchester, the lever, hammer, and breech block were all case color finished.  Further, I can see evidence of buffing wear to the patent marking and serial number on the lower tang.
