Has anyone ever seen a factory box for a 1873 (1876)…. cardboard…pasteboard?? There are some nearly as new guns surviving but I never seen a boxed one. I have seen crates. Interestingly I have seen Volcanics in pasteboard boxes, obviously pre-model 1873, so there was such a notion. I have seen boxed 1886s albeit later ones. Well anyway………..
IN GOD WE TRUST
I have never seen one only crates.

Do original Winchester rifle crates (other than dads guns) come up for sale very often?
I’d like to have one if not crazy expensive.
You don’t want one. I have purposefully avoided purchasing one, as the number of fraudulent ones exceeds the number of genuine ones several times over! I would probably question if the one I owned, if I did own one, was indeed genuine. When it came time to sell, the seller will likely hold to this extreme scrutiny and it could prove a difficult sell.
If the propensity to create these with the intent to defraud for monetary gain wasn’t so incredibly high, I might be singing a different tune.
