I have a Model 1873 22 cal. that is nickel plated. I have seen a few at online auctions. I have the Winchester manufacturer letter from the Cody Museum but nickel plated is not mentioned. Was it plated after it left the manufacturer? I have found no references or articles on this rifle that would describe this rifle as being plated by Winchester.

If its not in the letter chances are its was not done by the factory. Now the people making the letter could of missed it so a call to Cody to have them verify the record is worth it. I would doubt that the factory would of missed entering that into the ledger since plating is a very obvious. There are lots of guns out there that did have aftermarket work done to them, engraving and plating are the main ones. If you want email me or post the serial number I could check to see if I have it with its configuration in my survey.

Its not in my survey so you would to check with Cody.
To post pictures directly you have to be a member. As a guest you have to use a third party host site like Photo Bucket and then link to them.
