Have an 1866 that has some numbers stamped into the top of the stock. I don’t think they are rack numbers because they are on the top of the stock and most racks were built to have the guns lay in them with the bottom of the stocks showing not the top. Note that the numbers are not consecutive (see photos). I have not seen these type of markings before. DOM is 1869. Any ideas????IMG_1728.JPGIMG_1729.JPGIMG_1730.JPG

One more “6” and you have the mark of the BEAST. Almost had yourself the Devil’s Winchester! Laugh

All joking aside, not sure what to make of them, never seen anything quite like them.

Sincerely,

Maverick

Kirk,

Never seen anything else marked like that and the haphazard placing of the numbers leads me to believe it was not done by a professional.

Maybe to help an absent-minded cowboy determine which rifle was in his saddle scabbard?

Pretty clever Maverick. Well I thought I would give it a try as I had no clue. Guess all of us have a desire to know about their guns.

Thanks for the input
