Hi guys,

I was browsing auctions today and came across this M1886 listing and realized I didn’t really understand the wording on the Cody letter.

Received in warehouse on December 12, 1904

Shipped from warehouse on December 18, 1894, Order number 4297

My logic would say that the rifle is received in warehouse from manufacturing (polishing room?) and then shipped from the warehouse to the customer. Seems strange it would be shipped on an order number before the received date?

The seller lists the dates as 1904 in their description. Is something funny going on? Any other thoughts?

Here is the listing:

https://www.proxibid.com/aspr/Lot-717-Winchester-1886-Deluxe-LAR/40264679/LotDetail.asp?lid=40264679

Thanks in advance,

Steve

I would guess the entered the warehouse year is a typo. Received Dec 12 1894 and shipped Dec 18 1894. A check with Cody to verify.

I agree with Bob… it was received December 12, 1894 versus 1904.

Just looked at the ad.Both dates listed say 1904.I would say who ever listed the rifle got the date mixed up and has now changed it.Smile

The only thing is 1904 is the wrong year, it should be a 1894 gun.

Ans as a result it is being sold as a modern gun instead of the antique that it is.
