Hello I have a pre-64 model 70 9mm sn# 420XX and I was told this particular gun had been authenticated by some expert who had then took pictures and published it some hardback back around 1980. Any help finding this book with the picture is much appriciated.

I suspect that it is in Roger Rule’s book “The Rifleman’s Rifle” I would check my copy, but I am away from home on a work trip.

Sure… I should be home on Thursday. Hopefully one of the other fellow WACA members will see this and break out their copy and look for it.

I have checked Roger’s book and there is photographs of a few rifles in the 9mm caliber and there is one with serial number 42,191 on page 267. Maybe it is in another book.

I paged through Whittaker (copyright 1978).  Unless id missed one, apart from a couple close-up photos of the caliber designation stamp, the only 9 M/M M70 rifles he pictures are:

Photo 12-1 (no serial number printed).  Photo of the barreled action removed from stock with the statement “This rifle is now in a Texas collection”.

Photo 12-2 (S/N 29393).  Belonged to Roger Rule.  The barrel date stamp was 1947 (too late for the serial number).

Maybe its the rifle in photo 12-1?  Does the “provenance” in the caption help?
