Something not encountered very often is a Leupold Detacho Scope Mounting System designed for use on Winchester M94 carbines. Other guns as well. A friend of mine has one mounted on a 1947 vintage M94 that I took some pictures of.
It provides a means to mount a scope to the carbine barrel without drilling any holes.
The rear sight is removed and replaced by the provided slot filler that has a hole drilled and tapped into it. The barrel band is removed and replaced by one that has a hole drilled and tapped in the top. Not as nice but I guess you could drill and tap the original barrel band as a last resort. These become the front and rear mounting holes for the base.
Two scope rings are assembled to the scope and they are attached to the base by a lever on each ring.
The scope is easily removed by those two levers. There is an integral rear sight as part of the scope base that can be used with the scope removed.
Designed to use a Leupold M8-2X EER: 2 power Extended Eye Relief scope as pictured below.
Kind of neat rig for those needing a scope on a M94 carbine. Not very tasteful but better than having extra holes in your Winchester.
Some interesting information in the thread below. Redfield had their version as well. I think these forwarded mount detacho sets have been around a long time. I have one on a .32 spl. carbine I have. I’ve had that piece for about 40 years and it came to me with the Leupold long eye relief scope with those mounts – and had been on a while. My carbine was made in 1964. By the way, I killed several deer with it and it was a great performer in the deep woods. I made some running deer shots (in heavy brush) and they dropped dead. An advantage of this sighting system is you can keep both eyes open and see both through the scope and all around the scope at the same time.
