Is the highest serial number assigned to the Model 1886 159994?

I had the opportunity to purchase 159987 at the Baltimore Shiw about 25 years ago and still regret not doing so.

No, it is not.  The research survey that Mark & I have been working on for the past many years has S/N 159996 as the highest known Model 1886.  We also have S/Ns 159991 & 159992 documented in the survey.  I have heard rumors that S/N 159999 exists.

It seems like to me that they would have just produced at least to 160,000.
