I know we’ve talked about the show, “Wanted Dead or Alive” and about the character, Josh’s Randall’s Mare’s Leg. The amusing part as we know is that he has a ’92 .44-40 but carries a belt full of .45-70 cartridges. I was watching an episode today and it occurs to me, that although I’ve frequently seen him shoot his piece, I’ve never seen him load any cartridges into it. Not surprising given thumbing one of those .45-70 rounds into it would be amusing. I contrast that to Lucas McCain and I’ve seen him load his ’92 .44-40 many times (even from a box of .44-40 cartridges). I wonder if the producers had not originally gone with a belt full of .45-70’s, they might have showed him load it now and then? I think it would have been just as cool to have a double row of .44-40 cartridges in that belt.
Can anyone recall an episode where Josh loads some cartridges into his Mare’s Leg?
I might be showing my age but there was one I remember from when this program was on broadcast TV. The one episode I recall had a young elephant, I think, that escaped and was running wild doing damage. He was shown getting one of the long, .45-70’s out of the belt and commenting it was going to take one of those to stop the animal. Yeah, would have liked to see the close up of that effort! Even then I knew it was camera candy and not anything close to reality. Tim
