Could you please give me your load data ?unfortunately pistol data is rare in the uk.
we can’t even get all of the same powders as you, they have to be (Reach) compliant now due to the Europeans rules we comply with.
Well, for my gun and the Hornady XP bullets, I started at 8gr of A2400 and worked up to 10gr. Can’t say how well it will work in your gun with Sierra bullets, but do a little Googling, the data is out there. Might want to shoot an email to Sierra and ask them.
It would be best if you picked a bullet first and let us know what powders you can get. Then we might be able to give you some choices. A 100 grain .312″ lead bullet can take 12 grains of 2400 for 2,220 fps. This speed seems fast to me??? This is about factory specs according to Barnes.
Shooting Lever Guns of the Old West by Mike Venturino has 5 different loads for a 115 grain .313″ lead bullet. IMR SR 4756, Alliant Unique, Hodgdon Tightgroup, Win 231 and Accurate XMP 5744. All of Mike’s loads keep the fps to around 1,100 to 1,250 fps.
My new Sierra manual does not show a load for either rifle or pistol? One of my 1967 manuals shows loads for a 100 gr bullet with 11.5 grains of 2400 for 1,670 fps and a 115 grain bullet with 10.8 grains of 2400 at 1,555 fps. There is no data for the exact bullet being used.
You need to slug your bore.

The latest Hornady manual has data for the 85 grain .312″ and the 100 grain .312″. 4 different powders for each weight. The only 2 that are listed for both weights are using Alliant 2400 and IMR 4227 powders.

Make sure you’ve got plenty of brass screen patches for your Lewis Lead Remover.

I do not believe that the fps is correct at all and wouldn’t want to push lead this fast. Stick with a jacketed bullet just buy some cleaner that has copper remover in it too. It will smell like ammonia. Follow the directions. Something like Sweats says not to leave it in the barrel more than about 10 minutes.
We shoot these out of an original 1873 .32 WCF that has a terrible bore. They have a good chance to perform well for you.

Extremely Accurate
.313, 115 gr. FN GC bullets from The Bull Shop out of Dell, Montana.
12.65 gr. Reloder 7.
CCI 400 Small Rifle primer

.312, Speer 100 gr. JHP
3.4 gr. Titegroup
CCI 400 Small Rifle primer
——————————
.312, Hornady 85 gr. HP/XTP
3.4 gr. Titegroup
CCI 400 Small Rifle primer

These jacketed loads are quite accurate. The 115 grain gas-checked are just tooooo good!
The jacket loads are from Hodgdon for pistols. We were keeping pressures low for the ’73.

Sorry – no can do…. super secret book and very very confidential.
