Are you sure its a 73? most NWMP guns are 76’s. Post some pictures or a link so I can see it.

There are no 32 caliber muskets as far as I can tell. One in 38 caliber. My guess is the auction company has a error in their listing and has a 76 not a 73 and its not a musket but a carbine. A 76 carbine look similar to a musket in that it has the long wood and end cap. If you run the serial number as a 76 you might find it come back as a carbine.

Don’t bother running the number. Its someones fantasy work. Its a 32 caliber 73 rifle that someone cut the barrel and put a long forearm on it. They used the original forearm cap on the front of the wood. They acid etched “N.W.M.P. (Northwest Mounted Police) ret. 12 yr. N.W.T. (Northwest Territory)” on the left sideplate.

I had not gone past the sale bill that was mailed out, so the picture did tell the true story ! A couple of questions back to a search report on muskets ? Would it say musket or barrel length of 30 inches ? And did they make muskets with octagon barrels ? Thanks for your time and help.
Randy,
In the records a musket does not state a barrel length since it would be the default length but there are some with different lengths and they would be mentioned in the records. I have never seen or heard of a musket with a octagon barrel.
