Does anyone know what ‘inside finish’ means on a Cody letter?

Here it is listed on a nice 1876 express rifle:

Winchester Deluxe Model 1876 .50 Express Rifle | Rock Island Auction

Chris.

They took a little more time to polish the insides removing machining marks and would be finished the same as normal.

Thanks Bob. It would be a pretty rare option I would think.

Are there many 1873s in your survey that have it listed?

A Google search revealed that per Winchester expert and author Herbert Houze, only 175 Model 1876’s had “inside finishing”.

Sure seems like a lot of money – but, has a lot of case showing for a 76. Personally, I have never been interested in foreign proof guns – but, variety makes the world go round. I hope someone will follow-up and let us know what the guns sells for at the auction.
