Inherited from my late father. Lever action, believe it is a 30-30 but not sure, never having fired it or seen him fire it. Really nice condition.
Left side barrel says, “Winchester Proof Steel Model 64 Winchester Trade mark –30 W.C.F.–
There is an “EV” on the body right in front of the trigger. S/N on bottom front of metal body is
1381298.
Can’t find a “Model 64” in the catalogs.
Any help/info is appreciated.
Hello,
It is a “30-30”. The serial number indicates that it was manufactured in the year 1946. Winchester discontinued the original Model 64 late in the year 1956.
There were four variations of the Model 64 as follows;
1. Standard Rifle, 24-inch barrel, plain walnut stocks, plain wood pistol grip.
2. Standard Rifle, 20-inch barrel (carbine length), plain walnut stocks, plain wood pistol grip.
3. Deer Rifle, 24-inch barrel, select walnut stocks, checkered, super grade sling swivels, capped pistol grip.
4. Deer Rifle, 20-inch barrel (carbine length), select walnut stocks, checkered, super grade sling swivels, capped pistol grip.
Which one do you have ?

I have the standard rifle with 20″ barrel, number 2 in your post’s pictures. It was my father’s deer hunting rifle and he fitted the rear sights with a Browning unit, very complicated looking with wheel adjustments and verniers up and down and side to side. But it got him a deer from Maine every year.
Thanks for your reply–is there a manual on line for this rifle?
The Model 64 receiver (action) is identical to the Model 94. If you Google “Winchester Model 94 manual pre 64” you will find what you need.
Are you sure that the rear sight is not a Lyman ? Winchester routinely installed Lyman No. 56 rear sights on the Model 64 20-inch rifles. Can you send me a picture of the rear sight ?
