I’ve been a guest member for six months and have pored through the first 51 pages of this forum, also digging deeper into many topics of interest.  Several surveys have been mentioned, but I don’t recall information on how to contribute to any of them.  I currently own two shooters, an 1873 and 1894, with Santa bringing me an 1892 (Xmas 2020).  None are out of the ordinary, but I’d like to contribute whatever information I can.  I have a Cody letter on the 1873 that only provided the warehouse data.

Please advise.

Hello Dorsey,

Each survey (and the person conducting one) has a different list of information being sought.  It is best to contact each surveyor separately using the information found in this table – Winchester Research Surveys | Winchester Research Surveys | ForumWinchester Collector

In regards to your Model 1894, is the serial number in the 1 – 7999 or 354000+ serial number range?

Dorsey,

I would need the complete serial number and the letter behind it if there is one.
The type of 73 it is (rifle, carbine or musket)
Caliber
Barrel length (including the part threaded in the receiver)
Barrel shape(round, octagon or 1/2 round)
Is the magazine is full length or 1/2 length
Does the gun has a pistol grip stock or straight stock
Is the wood checkered
What type of butt plate it has (crescent, carbine, shotgun or swiss)
Does it have deluxe grade wood
Does the gun have a set trigger
What type of finish is on the gun (blued, receiver cased colored and rest blued or plated)
If you have a factory letter on the gun I would like to know what is said in it. I don’t need the warehouse dates.

If you do not want to put your information on the forum you can email it to me at the address at the bottom of this post.

Thanks much, Look forward to receiving the information.

Hello Bert,

My 1894 is serial number 566333, a takedown in 32 WS, crescent butt, plain wood, no checkering, straight stock, single trigger, Sheard front sight, Smokeless rear sight, 26″ barrel.

When my 1892 arrives, I’ll send that information to the respective survey contact.  Thanks for providing a link to the surveys and researchers.

I already had your Model 1894 TD Sporting Rifle in the survey.

Thank you very much for participating in the surveys!

Hi Bert,

Interesting that the dealer from whom I purchased the 1894, or the person from whom he acquired it, thought to register it with you!  Thanks for letting me know.
