There seems to be so much info here and out there regarding the early Winchester rifle but almost nothing about the newer models like the 88 & 100 models. I was in contact with Winchester Arms and Olin and both told me when the ownership transferred most of those records were destroyed or were not transferred. On another forum specifically for the 88 & 100 rifles there are lots of unanswered questions that no one really know the answers to. There is not much info at all about the companion rifle to the 88 & 100, the model 490 in 22LR.
It just seems rather odd that we know so much about the very early stuff and so little about the rifles produced near the bitter end. I try to find nice model 100s when I can get them at a decent price and a pal likes his model 88s. Both of these models IMO are great deer hunting rifles with a nice following.
You are absolutely correct Gary, most of the folks on this site are dedicated “early” Wincester collectors and “experts”. However there are some individuals who do collect the later Winchesters, Commemoratives, mod. 12’s , 88’s etc. So if You post with an issue there is usually someone here to assist when they see You post.
