Thanks Michael. According to the only records that I can find, the serial numbers stopped around 752,000 in 1941 so I don’t really know about the 1930 date. Where does that come from? Not saying you’re wrong but just hoped someone had latter serial number data than I had. Also why would they stamp the front of the frame itself? I’ve never seen the frame itself with a caliber stamp on it.

As Bob pointed out the DOM information can be found on the WACA home page. Look at the middle of the page where it shows a Model 1886 rifle and the question “When was your Winchester made?” The data itself is based on the end of year serialization records kept by Winchester.
The breech bolt and mainspring are different for the WRF chambered rifles compared to those used in the other .22 chamberings. Therefore, during assembly the WRF only parts had to be easily differentiated from the others, used and matched to the correct barrels.

The Winchester DOM numbers from Proofhouse don’t include the polishing room data so they will be off by several years in some cases.
