I read pictures are wanted along with a story. Here’s a bit of both. I love 86’s, 45-90’s are my favorite. I have been looking for an ELW for awhile and knew of this one. Had a ridiculous price tag but kept in mind. Suddenly the price dropped to an almost legit level. Now I I’m intrigued. So I call and offer a sub par price and he accepted! So now I am the owner of another 86! there goes my kids inheritance. Btw it’s the middle one of the three , Gotta love those ELW. And yes it letters!
Tom, is that one a takedown? It’s in beautiful condition. What better inheritance could a kid ask for, anyway?

It looks like they’re all takedowns! And all wonderful. Words cannot describe my attraction to these rifles. WOW!
I appreciated the story of how you acquired it. What a happy ending!
Good evening to all, I am sorry for delays in responding to everyone and their questions, been a bit busy with work. Any how, first many thanks for the compliments. Second it was made in 1905, serial # 137691, if anyone needs it for a survey, full mag TD. Again I have searched for that exact configuration for awhile and was very excited when my offer was accepted. Of course I spent a couple of days on pins and needles as it had to be shipped to me from the seller, never liked the idea of potential damage due to shipping. But it arrived save and sound! So now I’m on the hunt for the next inductee to my little 86 family. An ELW in… 33wcf which I know someone that has one but not sure he’s willing to part with it yet. But we have talked about it! Or a SRC in of course 45-90, or my other favorite, with a shout out to Steve, in 33wcf.
BTW Ian, takes for the tip on the brass. But I’ve got around 150 loaded 45-90 in the locker.

I have owned a M1886 SRC in .45-90, but never a .33 WCF SRC. That’s going to be the hard one

Steve, I’m not sure a SRC in 33 even exists, can you say unicorn. I did pass on a SRC in 45-90 recently because it had been restored. I may never find either one but I bet I acquire something in between,
It’s the adventure of the pursuit. If we could walk in to Wal-Mart and buy them it wouldn’t be near as much fun! Happy Hunting!

My guess is a .33 WCF SRC does not exist. Or, at least was never originally manufactured. Bert, am I correct?
Ian, given my limited knowledge and reading and conversations with John Madl I would agree with you about a SRC in 33wcf. But as we both know a rarity does come along every now and again. Of course an ELW in 33 would give me a little satisfaction.

Zeb, I am sorry I missed your call, Yes it is a TD with a full mag. As far as inheritance goes he’s my only living proof I exist and he really loves the Winchesters. So I guess you are correct as far as that. Guess I’m simply trying to start the next generation of care takers! Thanks for your compliment!

Tom, just before we go in for our last driving layup and, these days, we’re more likely to know we’re about to go; knowing those things are going to the boy will add to your comfort. I’ve seen it. My only suggestion is you make double sure of it in advance. Beautiful guns create unworthy thoughts in people, particularly in relatives. I’ve seen that too, as I expect you have. My own father, on his deathbed, was particularly anxious I would get his own father’s Ball watch, both having been longtime railroad men. He made me fetch it and take it, with a witness. It was a tearful event but he was a practical man and it eased him.

Merz has a .45-90 SRC for sale, but it has some flaws for a collector:

Steve, you are correct about the flaws. I’ve looked at this one before. It looks like it fell off the saddle and was dragged a couple miles up the mountains. I will say it definitely has character! Think I have to pass on that one.
