I’ve done business with Leroy and I was very happy with what I got. I have never done business with Don. I have seen these guys at many dozens of gun shows over the last 30+ years. If either had something I wanted I would try to make a deal. Deals just don’t always work out for whatever the reason. If someone has a good gun but wants too much money I try to barter but at some point you may have to walk away. I’ve found that if you are persistent in your search you will eventually find what you want at a price you can live with.
I don’t dispute your experience. However, Larry is looking to sell, not buy. Buying from dealers like LeRoy is a whole different deal than selling your collection to them. You are FAR better off selling your rifle directly to the guy the dealer would sell it to.

Where did you get the inference that I was suggesting he deal with Leroy? My comments only had to do with buying.
You are correct, it is far better to eliminate the middle man whomever it may be.

Sorry – I was responding to what I thought the focus of this thread was – selling. But, threads often do go off in different directions. Now I see we moved on to gun nuts, enthusiasts, lovers…. me? I consider myself a gun crank

I find gun nuts to be a little harsh.I prefer to be known as a gun enthusiast.:)LOL
Exactly. The biggest gun internet site in Canada is called GunNutz. Not what you need when trying to promote safe shooting sports and vintage collecting among the standing Liberal govt and soccer moms who shriek at the mere word of gun, rifle, firearm. And there’s no chance GunNutz is changing its name. The admin cannot see the forest for the trees!

Got a problem with gun nuts, do we? LOL. I can spell “enthusiast” with a little help but with my taste in guns “nut” is more appropriate. I figure the guns I leave behind will likely be donated to support a favorite museum or two. I have a few family members that pretend to be interested but all they see are dollar signs. My brother complains about running out of room in his safe when I give him a rifle so they’ll all be orphans. Maybe I should give them to Big Larry’s kids.

Just to add a little humor hear, as I had poopy day. Any one is more than welcome to donate any Winchester to the Double H firearms collection. Just trying to laugh tonight. $$$$ are what most see. I feel so grateful my only child, my son, is tearing up the idea of collecting Winchesters.

I hope the rest of your week went better, Tom. I’m glad to hear about your son, our hobby needs enthusiastic young collectors. I’m also hoping Big Larry isn’t in any hurry to liquidate as my discretionary funds are embarrassingly limited at this time.
As touched on above the quickest and easiest way to sell will also net the least money. An individual or firm that can buy an entire collection will need to pay a price that will allow him to market and sell at a profit. To get top dollar you need to be tech savvy like our favorite Gunbroker sellers. From what we’ve seen Big Larry’s guns should bring top dollar. Some may benefit from the marketing expertise of a big auction house, they seem to be able to attract buyers for exceptional offerings.
