Comments on originality of both blued finish and wood finish and the condition of the receiver would be appreciated. To me the wood looks refinished and the screw holes in the receiver look dished out, but maybe wrong. Thanks

You are very correct in your initial observation. See below link regarding a previous discussion regarding the same rifle.

Adding to that I believe that the barrel inscription is incorrect for a First Model suggesting a newer non original barrel. My .38-55 First Model has a two line address without the patent date as this one has.The sights are incorrect also.
That barrel also has a proof-mark. A good indicator of a barrel swap.

Can anyone believe this gun did “not meet reserve” at 25 grand?Walter
Holy crap!!! That’s crazy money for a gun with that many issues. It amazes me that people can be so naive and throw that kind of money down without doing some basic research or consulting an expert. That seller also missed out on the sale (or screwing) of the century by setting the reserve so high.

Oops, I just noticed there are two threads on this rifle.
Anyway, I see they have relisted it with a buy-it-now price of $49,999.
Sheesh.
