I stumbled across this interesting article in Forest & Stream. Guy gets H.M. Pope to make him a longer 30″ Springfield Rifle barrel mount it to his 95 and re-chamber for .35 Winchester and make it a take-down. Then have someone else make him a custom stock for it, with wood from the factory and then mounts some nice Lyman sights onto it.
I can’t help but wonder why he just didn’t ship the gun back and get it modified. Or special ordered the rifle the way he wanted. Other than it seems he may have saved a little money doing it the way he did. What seems odd to me is that I think I may have seen this very gun up for auction not that long ago. The things people do to there guns. Hope everyone finds this an interesting read. That is unless you’ve already stumbled across it yourself.

Thanks for sharing that interesting read. I imagine that would be an accurate rifle in that set up. “Rebuilding Your Rifle to Suit Yourself” is a perfect title; I think many other hunters and shooters might have individually done something different in the same situation with the same means.
I like to read back in those old articles also. They have a unique perspective from the times and also remind us of things we might have forgotten about.
