The caution flags flared when I saw an early 1900’s ’94 rifle with a forearm tip as shown below.  This type of tip is not original to an older 1894?  Only on Model 64’s?

(Sorry about misnaming the part in the “topic” line.  Always learning.)

That looks to be a Model 64 forearm cap and sling eye.

The originals should look like this:

Thanks for the photos.

Replacing the tip with an appropriate one would be an option.  But, because it is not noted as “non-original,” I wonder if anything else has been done to the rifle.  Guess someone else will take it home with them.

That style was used on the Models 64, 65, and 71.

So this one’s definitely not original:

Correct… Winchester most certainly was not using that style of nose-cap on a 1918 vintage Model 1894 Rifle.

From The Woods, Please inform me should you decide to replace that nose/forecap to the proper Model 94 type.  Thanks, Bruce

Bruce,

I didn’t buy that rifle.  I had looked at it at Ward’s, and it was tempting to try to win the auction.  But, I balk at spending that much money when doubts regarding original condition arise.  Replacing the tip would not have been a deal-breaker, but what else has been changed on that gun?

Are you looking to sell an original tip, or is it you want to add an eyed-tip to another rifle?  or?

Ward’s as in Monkey Ward’s?  Here’s the link to the entire story from a year ago.

https://winchestercollector.org/forum/restoration-repair-and-maintenance/model-64-deluxe/

Cutting to the chase scene, my 64 Deluxe is missing part of that nose cap (see photo).  I’m still waiting to have an extra rear swivel mount (the part that screws into the buttstock) milled to fit my cap.  Original deluxe tips are nonexistant.

Dang, Bruce, you’ve gone a year without the proper cap!  Your Winchester nerves must be ragged.

If I had won the auction, you’d have a tip.  Maybe contact Ward’s and leave them a message for the winner of that rifle.  They seem to be good people, accommodating.  This will be an extremely busy week for them, but they would likely help to give the winner your contact information.  They could write a note and attach it to the rifle.

I’ll keep an eye out for a tip and give you a heads-up if I find one.

No monkeys.  See the above posts for the auction and the rifle.
