Good morning,
This supposed 18 inch trapper SRC was a standard length carbine the three other times I have seen it for sale. The first time it was on GB back in 2014. Here are the images. Not the front barrel band screw is in backwards then and the oxidation on the barrel near the muzzle.
I next saw it for auction at RIA in May of 2017 Lot 72. https://www.rockislandauction.com/detail/70/72/winchester-model-1892-lever-action-saddle-ring-carbine Notice the front screw again.
Then it was just sold at RIA (again) in October of 2020 Lot 2064. https://www.rockislandauction.com/detail/1035/2064/two-winchester-lever-action-saddle-ring-carbines Some front screw.
Now it appears on GI with a lengthy Madis sited explanation for just how rare it is and the barrel and magazine have been cut down two inches and the front screw is put in correctly! And a remarkable increase in price when you consider that it sold for $1200 in October and is now being offered for a mere $6500. https://www.gunsinternational.com/guns-for-sale-online/rifles/winchester-rifles-model-1892/winchester-1892-40-92-41-saddle-ring-carbine-40-src-41-38-40-caliber-with-rare-18-trapper-barrel-made-in-1913.cfm?gun_id=101613147
Be careful out there!

Michael – thank you for the service you provide to our group of collectors. Has anyone contacted the seller? Given this carbine was known to be sold in a different configuration last fall, it seems there is a fair chance the current seller was involved in the alteration. I’m speculating of course and don’t want to rush to judgment. For all I know, he is a victim here. However, if he is presented with the facts, and ignores the facts, then he becomes party to the deception.

I sent him an inquiring email but have not heard anything from him.
