Trying to clean-up obtaining letters for my remaining misc. rifles. I know I should just do them all at once, but for curiosity sake which would be most intriguing??

Model 43 .22 Hornet (std.) (1950)

Model 94 .32WS (1951)

Model 61 (1952)

Sorry to say, but there are no factory letters available for all 3 of your rifles.  See below link for the available serial number ranges by model.

But if letters were available (assuming there are no obviously special-order features on these guns), what would they tell you that you don’t already know by having the gun in your hand?

….actually a really good point! Unlike a Colt letter, ship-to owner and destination does not appear. These rifles are basic stock models unaltered with no otherwise interesting features. The Colt letters sometimes provide a trove of historic information. I was probably getting ahead of myself!!!

Jerry, if you continue to collect Winchesters you should join WACA and the Cody museum.  I believe letters are only $40.

I lettered a Buntline Special I bought from Krasnes in San Diego years ago. and it came back as shipped to Krasnes in 1958. Wonder where it was all those years.

I also took a chance on a old prewar Colt SAA 45 and it came back as one of the infamous Copper Queen guns in 1906. It was my very first handgun, and yes, I still have it. I paid $75 for it in the early 60’s. BTW, that letter was $6.    My, things have changed. I can remember when Winchester letters were free. Big Larry

I’ve still got one of them.  I’m embarrassed now that I wasted Tom Hall’s time with requests for letters on plane-Jane standard catalog guns; although, if there were published serial no./mfg. date lists available at that time, I didn’t have one.

I recall getting a letter from the Cody Museum for an1892 rifle in the mid 1980s and didnt pay anything for it. I also got one from Mr.Jinks at  Smith and Wesson for a Triple Lock .455 and one from Colt for an 1877 Model also for free.
