I can find something to like about most (original) 1886’s. This one is toward the top of the heap. A wonderful rifle. They don’t show the museum letter but quote it. I have never seen a letter that specified the amount of time the engraver spent on the rifle (“80 hours Stokes”). Anyone else seen anything like this? Beyond the value of the notation in the letter, I find it interesting to know how long that level of engraving took.
Any opinion on what that rifle would bring today? Despite the, “softness” in the market, I’m thinking for pieces this special, it would bring more.
