For those that didn’t win the one referenced above, I see Chayn’s has an even nicer one – and there’s still time!

Yeah, that’s a very nice Hi Wall also! Not a Schuetzen, though!
Right–it’s not even a Special Sporting Rifle, which wouldn’t have the rear sight slot. A Schuetzen would have diff trigger, buttplate, & most importantly, a palm-rest. It’s a special order custom. What’s esp odd is the CC DS trigger with the TG used for the wide-spaced DS.
This mis-description by a major auction house very well illustrates what was said in another thread about the unreliability of auction descriptions. Their “experts” handle thousands of guns, but their knowledge about them seldom extends beyond the superficial. If they’d never seen a true Schuetzen, a quick check of a factory catalog would have enlightened them, but why take the trouble, when you’re an “expert” gun appraiser.

I think what I find so frustrating and irritating is that fact that we here, as collectors, are trying to build a body of knowledge that is accurate. There are many forces pushing against that goal. Examples are inaccurate, contrived and false descriptions and information put out by major auction houses, dealers, various sellers and so on. There is so much purported for the purpose of profiteering. It diminishes our collecting field in numerous ways.

I really contemplated going after this one!
Looks right as rain to me!
The A5 Telescope was added well after the fact. Front mount has holes drilled & tapped through the barrel address marking.

Neither of the rifles mentioned are a “Schuetzen”. Chayn’s high-wall is a Special Single Shot Rifle. The rifle that sold in Ward’s auction is a special order rifle that most closely resembles a Special Single Shot Rifle, but does not have all of the standard features.

That would queer it for me, even if I did have the price of a “new” 2nd-hand truck to spend on it. Unconscionable that this wasn’t high-lighted in description.

That is why I appreciate Austinsguns and Chayns so much – this type detail always gets pointed out in the descriptions and well-photographed. That type of honesty and forthrightness is the exception these days.

The end of the barrel looks trimmed back too, unless they never got all the barrel in the photos, both sides. There were no close ups of the end if they barrel either….
