Well… I am not in the actual game here.  I am not considering writing out a check for $65,000 so I’m not going to contact Turnbull for more details.  If I were flush with excess funds to the point that it would be no big deal to pull the trigger on this one, I would follow through with the inquiry.  As a general rule, I dislike refinished rifles.  But what I really (really) dislike is recreated rifles.

$65,000 would go a long way toward some very nice original Winchesters with condition.  However, I will confess that matching the rarity and uniqueness to this one would be a challenge.

What’s rare and unique about a recreated rifle?

$65,000 can go a long way, you can do a lot better than this!

The rarity really comes down to the ledger entry and the letter that is generated.

In my opinion this rifle is worth what it took to do the restoration/recreation.  I could buy a handful of real Winchesters for that price.

From what I have heard about Turnbull making fantasy guns is he would probably make you one just like it.

I don’t think many of us would but this level of quality and exclusivity does seem to appeal to a certain segment of the collector community. I gotta respect that. I’m glad many of the Winchesters that make me smile don’t appeal to everyone. That’s what makes this affliction livable, IMHO.

Mike –

I agree.  When I say rifle isn’t right for me, all that means is, it isn’t right for me.
