I was at a gun show over the weekend.. looking for model 94’s as usual.  A dealer pulled one out from under his table that he had purchased the day before to show me.  It was a standard 30-30 carbine, serial number 259XXXX (1963) that appeared to have factory engraving on both sides of the receiver- I believe it was a deer scene on the left side. The dealer was far to proud of it to actually give me a price.

After returning home, I tried to do some research (Winchester books/net) on such a model 94 and really could not find anything that resembled this gun. Does anyone have info on what/if engraving would have been available for Model 94’s from this era?

John,

Winchester did offer engraving at that time, but it would be relatively rare on a standard Model 94 Carbine.

Thanks Bert.

Yes, it was absolutely standard except for the engraving.  I would have taken a picture, but the owner was being kind of “funny” about it.

I personally would not put much (if any) faith in it being factory original. I am not saying that it is impossible, but it is extremely unlikely to be factory original.
