Receiver could be late 1894 production, and likely early 1896 before it left the polishing room.
Not a high condition gun, but it looks like it could be original finish. Some nice walnut grain pattern. There can’t be too many earlier Round Barrel 1894 Takedowns in 30 W.C.F.
Some pics, enjoy, and thanks for looking.
Martin,
Nice looking takedown. The wood is especially nice. Nice sight combination. The rifle was serialized (polishing room date) during 1895. You will need to contact the Cody museum and request a factory letter to determine when the receiver was actually assembled into a full rifle and entered the warehouse and then was shipped out. The sights may show in the letter also.

Thanks for the clarification of polishing room dating. Narrows it down nicely!
I am in hopes to hear soon on a check before applying for the Cody letter.

Martin, the first RB, TD I have data on was s/n 3732 from 3-18-1895. The 2nd was s/n 5151 from 7-15-1895
Do these earlier TD serials reveal caliber for the round barrels?
nice old 94. I like the wood. I wonder if it is marked on the lower tang with 2 or 3 X’s? A buddy of mine who owns a pile of Winchesters claimed that Winchester often used extra grain wood on takedowns even if the customer didn’t pay for it. Of course it wouldn’t be marked with X’s on the lower tang if that were the case.

Very handsome rifle. Wood very unusual, almost looks like Mahogany.
