Randal,

The forearm should be 7 7/8″ long if it a 16″ second model trapper. The only thing that I see that does not look right is the front sight. It should be a post sight but it could be someone put a long insert in it.

Do you have a question with this one?

It would be better if you upload higher resolution pictures will help to see more detail.

Both say 44-40 with 16 inch barrels.

First one is 2nd model in serial #7734x range and the second picture is #368637.

What value???? I know that pictures are not that good but it all the lady supplied.

Randal,

Its hard to tell the condition from the pictures provided but I would say $7000 to $8000 each.

You will need better photos to see if barrel has been cut.  Stock looks home made,  not sure about forend , it may be a replacement too. The other Carbine looks full length, with a modified front sight. Suspect forend on it too.

The first carbine photo definitely looks like a full length carbine, not a short barrel one.  Compare the length of the forearm and the barrel length from the end of the forearm to the muzzle to that of the second photo.

After comparing the two, it does look like the first one has a longer barrel. You need to inspect these guns yourself or get her to actually measure the barrels and forearms. Remember the length of the barrel includes the threaded part in the receiver. Its also a good idea to have a letter or a phone search on each gun before you buy to protect yourself from a altered gun. If that first gun is in original condition with a standard 20″ barrel and it looks like it does not have much finish, I would say it worth $3500

I’d do a phone search with the museum – pronto!
