Kind of scarce, it appears to be one of the M94’s first ramp sights with no provision for a sight cover. Big Larry

Jim,

Per my research, the Model 94 Carbine ramp front sight was introduced in 1932 (serial number 1082935 is the earliest serial number discovered thus far). Some (but not all) of the early ramp sights were made with no provision for a sight hood. Thus far, I have found six of them, all in the 1082935 – 1086811 serial number range. The serial number on the Carbine you asked about is 1086126, and the front sight is correct.

What would make that gun worth $4K?

Nothing, and the seller is quite misinformed about the front sight. It most certainly was not

ordered with a custom front sight

nor did

Winchester custom made these front sights especially for this carbine.

At the time that Carbine was manufactured, Winchester had just made the design change from Nickel Steel barrels to Proof Steel, and they changed the front sight to the ramp w/dovetail versus the old post & pinned blade.
