I read an online description that stated 20″ round barrel, 1/2 magazine, Model 92, 38 WCF. Naturally, I thought a SRC with a button mag in that caliber would be a nice addition. Then I received these photos. Since the Polishing Room Records don’t cover this SN, I’m left to speculate as to whether this is genuine. Gut tells me no but thought I’d solicit input. The wood looks refinished (could be freshly oiled?) and should belong on a SRC (w/ optional shotgun butt plate?) but there is no saddle ring on the frame. I speculate someone had a few pieces and cobbled together a functional carbine. But…. I am a novice and value the opinions of those on this forum. Regards, Ron

Hello Ron,
The rifle, actually a carbine, is for real. The serial n umber equates to 1929 production. The wood has absolutely been removed, sanded, and refinished. The scratch/gouge on the left side of the forearms is a remnant of that activity. The gun was ordered without a sling ring on the left side which, while not rare is certainly “uncommon.” Additionally, the carbine was ordered with the shotgun butt with the fluted comb and a 2/3rds length magazine. This assemblage with shotgun butts, shorter than full length and longer than button mags, and fluted combs are sometimes found between 1912 and the end of production. This rifle is very late in the production run of the Model 92’s. There were less than 1000 made after it.
Let me know if you have further questions. I will be happy to try to answer them.
