A beginner here folks – I recently acquired my first Win, 30WCF model 94, Mfg in 1925, saddle ring carbine. Don’t know anything about these rifles but want to learn all I can.
Unusual perhaps??? This rifle has a checkered forend (simple straight diamond pattern), however the butt stock is plain non-checked. Research photos I have found thus far of this vintage rifle indicated checkering on both pieces of wood & was fancy curvy check design.
Question – Is it common to see this model rifle with only forend wood checkering?
This rifle is in decent condition but probably low collector value. Have no reason to believe someone has switched out the wood. Perhaps it’s an aftermarket checkering job???
This is my first trip to this forum, I’m in love already, have been reading for hours & can’t wait to do more.
Many thanks to anyone who may be able to assist me with determining if this is a unique rifle or a somewhat common edition saddle carbine…
Hello,
More than likely the forend stock or the butt stock is not original. Just as you have found and seen, Winchester checkered both pieces of wood to match. Can you provide clear detailed pictures of the checkering on the forend?
