OfflineFellows: I have this beautifully engraved Winchester Model 70 with a beautifully carved stock. It was made in 1978, 68 years ago. It is in 30/06. It has a hollow bolt, a folding real sight and a hooded front sight. Check out the Bear on the floor plate. It is in excellent shape, looks almost new but for a couple of slight handling marks on the stock. The barrel and engraving is pristine Most Winchester collectors will really like this weapon. Hand engraved by a master and the stick carved by a master. I took the scope and mount off. It’s back to its original look. It is tapped for a scope, but I have several others that

have scopes on them. Check it out

OfflineHi Commissioner-
I see you already corrected the typo… S/N 436105 is a 1958 gun. So 68 years old is right…
You’re not thinking it was a factory custom job are you? If it were factory it would have been engraved by John or Nick Kusmit. The deep relief engraving and engraving/carving patterns do not look “factory” to me. Winchester would not have put that much time into carving a stock with wood that plain… Pauline Muerrle could provide a definitive answer if there’s a question.
IMHO the value of an aftermarket embellished gun (whether the engraving increases or hurts value) is dependent on the taste of the prospective buyer… If you like it, then adds value… Otherwise not…
Best,
Lou

OfflineI could be wrong. But, it looks like the engraving that I saw done in Germany when I was stationed there. I have noticed a lot of Model 70s with German engraving. Also, having claw scope mounts attached to there rifles. With Pecar of Berlin being the scope of choice. With the dollar being strong against the German mark. A service man could of gotten this work done at a reduced expense.
