I have a lettered model 1894 produced in 1900 with a octagon barrel and case hardened receiver. The cody letter specifies the barrel but doesn’t specify the receiver finish. If it’s original would the letter state the finish? If not how would i find out if it’s original? Thank yall
Hello Larry,
In answer to our question, if it was originally case color finished by Winchester, it would be documented on the factory letter. The notation in the “Remarks” column of the factory ledger book would be “CH” or “CCH”. I have a listing (by serial number) of the 157 Model 1894s that were factory case color finished. If you will provide me with the serial number on your rifle, I will check it against that list.

Larry – would you be willing to share some photos of the Model 1894 with the WACA Forum? As a guest you will need to submit them through a photo hosting website.
