Sorry Mr. H, I am not ignoring you its just I cant figure out how to get the pictures moved. I am not having any luck with this thing right now. The gun in question is on RIA august auction lot 25 if you are inclined to look, but they only have one picture shown. I bugged them for some more and they emailed them thru my thing with them and cant figure out how to move them.

I agree, there should be more than just one photograph, but what makes you think this receiver wasn’t originally case coloured? It looks typical of a little to no finish receiver Model 1886 that was originally case coloured with weakened bluing on the loading gate, this having, of course, been originally blued.

I get the same impression… it was originally case color finished, and it has worn to a light brown patina.

I’m grateful for the never ending eye on these thigs. Yes the only pic RIA shows is just terrible. They sent me a couple others and kind of the same thing just the other side, just looked weird. Upon further review it would appear its CC but severely worn. I too like the old letter from Tom Hall. Would be the oldest one I have in my collection.

What you you guys think as far as the $$$ for this gun? List at 3-5k.
I suppose it is likely to sell within the estimate range. I’d be surprised if it would sell for more. The .38/56 chambering and the very worn finish work against it. I wouldn’t be surprised if the shotgun butt also works against it. It seems most guys who want an ’86 SRC want one with a carbine butt.

I see RIA has another SRC coming up. Similar amount of finish (i.e. about none) and the auction estimate is identical. This one is a .45-70:
