Hi all,
I am new to the group and I apologize if I am out of line posting this.
Does anyone know if a 44 WCF saddle ring carbine has the same exterior dimensions on the barrel as a 25-20WCF saddle ring carbine? The 25-20 dimensions are roughly .602 at the muzzle end and .975 just above the threads. I am wondering if I can sleeve and old wore out 44 WCF to make the gun shoot again. I would love to find a 25-20WCF but that seems to be almost impossible.
Thanks for any help.

Mike,
I will assume that you are inquiring about a Winchester Model 1892. If that is the case, you cannot readily convert a 44 WCF (or 38 WCF) to a 32 WCF or 25-20 WCF. Virtually all of the internal parts are different for the small vs. large caliber Model 1892s. Further, the magazine tubes are not compatible due to the difference in diameter.

Thank you for your response. Sorry, I forgot to add that it is in fact an 1892. I am not trying to convert it to a different caliber. I have not been able to find an original barrel. I have been able to find a 44WCF barrel and if the exterior dimensions are the same I can reline the 44 WCF with a rifled liner for a 25-20WCF. I just do not want to order a barrel if the exterior dimensions are different.

The exterior dimensions of the 44 WCF barrel are different than a 25-20 barrel, and you cannot use a 25-20 magazine tube on a 44 WCF barrel due to the different way the magazine tube is attached to the barrel.

Okay. Thank you for the information. Mine has a hanger dovetailed to the bottom of the barrel for the magazine tube and I guess I mistakenly thought I could cut a dovetail into the 44 WCF and install the hanger. The original barrel is bent with no rifling left. Since the exterior dimensions are different I may part out the old gun. It is from 1907 and came from an old trappers estate in Eugene WA. Just hate to part it out but I am running out of options.
