That tube and plug doesn’t go with the barrel finish wise and its the wrong plug. If Winchester did it, the mag tube retainer would be forward. If there is no filled dovetail on the bottom of the barrel where it should be for a full mag then it probably was a 1/2 mag that got modified.

More photos would be helpful.

The receiver and the wood in the last photo do not appear to match the condition of the barrel and the magazine tube.  Receiver and wood seem to have seen much more use.

What do you make of this one no mag band but has the underside of barrel milled to take the TD cam.

At a minimum, tt has a cut down barrel and mag tube.

Here’s the search sheet. Owner feels it’s original & said Winchester would fulfill most any request. ??‍♂️

Rick,

The owner is a “salesman”… As I mentioned to you, that rifle was manufactured with a Full length magazine. The placement of the mag ring on it now is dead wrong.

Seller says there’s no dovetail 3.5” from the muzzle & says it hasn’t been filled in. I was thinking it might have been a button mag & the owner at some point wanted more ammo with a longer tube & dovetailed the current location.
The location of the dovetail as it is certainly doesn’t seem like something Winchester would do, even upon request.
As you also said Bert the barrel could’ve been changed. It does letter as a 25-35.

Rick,

The letter says its full mag by the fact it does not state a mag length so something has changed and the mag tube looks fishy.

If the magazine tube were original, it would be mentioned in the letter.  Plus, there are finish and other issues that suggest a change.  Even though the caliber letters, because we know from the letter that it originally had a full magazine, and the barrel on it now does not have a dovetail near the muzzle, we know this barrel is not original to the rifle. This is a put together rifle being hyped as original.  People will say anything (and stick to it).  Reminds me of an old, “Seinfeld” episode:  George says to Jerry, “Jerry, it’s not a lie if you believe it.”

Love that expression by George lol. I have to agree with you, Bob, & Bert.
