I was wondering if there’s professional photographers who specialize in taking Winchester Rifle photographs? I ask because there’s about a 1/2 dozen custom knife photographers who make good livings just shooting custom knives. I’m interested in getting nice photos taken of rifles as I acquire them. Below are the three photographers I use most for shooting images of knives in my collection.

I have never used him but he does great work. Stuart Smith is featured in Dr. Ed Lewis’ books.

I think he does some very nice work.

Here is his gallery on PBase. http://www.pbase.com/stusmithphoto/antique_firearms

Not sure how to get a hold of him though.

Sincerely,

Maverick

Kevin,

One thing to consider is that it is MUCH simpler to box up a collection of knives and send them to a photographer than it would be for an owner to ship off a rifle collection to an FFL holder for the photographer to then have to pick them up and then reship in return.  Time costs money and good photographers are not cheap.

twobit is right on the money,

I’ve spent a considerable amount of time doing various forms of professional photography (commercial, aircraft, pretty girls with not much on, etc.) and considered dabbling in firearms. Without an FFL (especially here in Los Angeles, Kalifornia) it would be difficult to make a business out of it. Not to mention the fact that the bulk of customers around here would want pictures of their AR’s and frankly, (even though I own and shoot several and like them for that), they just aren’t as interesting to me as old leverguns.

Rifles are a tough form factor to compose as well, so I just stuck with handguns in the few cases that I have.

Thanks guys, the FFL factor really doesn’t bother me as I’m only purchasing antique rifles.

I agree, rifles are challenging to photograph. I might get one of my knife photographers to take a stab at a rifle.

You may want to consider Ron Paxton who does firearm photography. His photos are used in a number of books by Roy Marcot. He recently did some photos for me of a special gun (non Winchester) for me.

My friend Terry Popkin photographed all of the firearms in this illustrative book for the National Firearms Museum.

The web site given for Ron Paxton is not correct. I have sent you a PM of Ron’s contact.
