I’m having trouble with this one’s value. 1894 rifle, 32-40, 4 digit, 4 thousand range, double set trigger, takedown, 1/2 round 1/2 octagon. Lyman tang sight, no middle sight. Good bore. Original, not much finish, mostly smooth patina with some blue, sound wood showing normal aging. I do not have a picture yet, this is from his telephone description, he is bringing it by tonight and I have to decide right then if I will pay his price, $2K. He is a friend selling it for an elderly man, and he needs $2K, so no negotiating.

Don’t much care for the situation but the gun sounds promising. Does it have a dovetail for the rear barrel sight? If it letters as described and has a decent amount of finish I think it would be well worth the $2K, especially if a first edition. Won’t be able to get anything from Cody tonight, of course. I don’t need to be buying guns right now but if it seems original I’d try to dig up the money.
Didn’t you do pretty well with other guns from this collection? I think I’d consider buying it just to be able to see what else they dig up.
It does have an empty dovetail. This is a different collection, 200 guns so far, 200+ more coming. I bought 6 Colt SAAs yesterday. The group of Winchesters I saw yesterday were low end. I am just looking for special/unusual guns now. My friend is helping the old guy sell, a group at a time. My friend just found this one today and thought I may be interested. He should be bringing it over soon.
