there’s no way that finish Is the original with that much wood shrinkage around the grip area. JMHO

Absolutely refinished from stem to stern… and rebarreled!
The serial number makes it a late 1901 vintage Model 1894, and the barrel on that rifle is a post-1950 production piece. Winchester did not mark them "32 WIN. SPL." until the mid part of the year 1950. Another clue is the lack of a proof mark on the barrel… somebody intentionally bufffed/polished it off, and it undoubtedly was a mail order barrel with a (P) proof mark.

I noted the part where the seller says, ‘Cannot determine if the rifle has been refinished.’ Judging from how badly the upper tang is sticking up out of the wood, the belt sander must have gotten away on the fellow doing the refinishing.
