I came across this Winchester letter and found it interesting that it mentions the rear barrel sight being omitted, and also wondered what “target” would have meant.
Maybe these are not uncommon factory ledger entries, but I don’t remember seeing either before.
Any thoughts?

I Don’t know what vintage or what model You have , but in 1902 a filler piece for the rear sight was .25 cents extra. It was not rare but somewhat uncommon. There was some discussion on here a little while back about “target”.

Last week we talked about the “Target”. The “No rear seat” is when they have a tang sight and don’t want a dovetail for a rear barrel sight. I have on e like that in a 73 and matt barrel.
