Here is a Model 1892 being auctioned off at Morphy that has a couple interesting features. It is a standard round barrel sporting rifle manufactured during 1924. What struck me was the position of the rear sight being noticeably further from the receiver face than is standard and the location of the barrel address stamp being fully forward of the metal fore end cap. My guess is that the purchaser had vision challenges and requested the rear sight position be moved. But, that does not explain the necessity of the barrel address being located differently. On 14, 15, and 16 inch trappers the barrel address extend beneath the rear sights.

To bad it can’t letter. Have you, or anyone doing the surveys, come across Anything in a factory letter that mentions a different dovetail location. I had a cataract in my shooting eye and it make close vision really tough, but I can’t imagine that being the case in the twenties,.

Bill,
In my research of the Single Shot records, I have found at least as dozen or so rifles that letter with the rear sight in a non-standard location.
